The International Journal of Indigenous Languages (IJILAN) is a peer-reviewed, scholarly journal devoted to the advancement, preservation, revitalization, and documentation of indigenous and minority languages across the globe. IJILAN is published under the aegis of the National Institute for Nigerian Languages, the apex Inter-University Centre for Nigerian languages studies.

IJILAN was established in response to the growing global concern over language endangerment, linguistic marginalisation, and the erosion of indigenous knowledge systems. The journal serves as an interdisciplinary platform for academics, researchers, educators, linguists, media practitioners, translators, cultural advocates, policymakers, and indigenous communities to publish high-quality research and innovative scholarly works related to indigenous language studies.

Thus, the journal welcomes original research articles, theoretical papers, review essays, field reports, language documentation studies, digital language preservation, policy analyses, and interdisciplinary works that explore the relationship between indigenous languages and society.

IJILAN publishes articles in English and selected indigenous languages, provided that submissions meet the journal’s editorial and peer-review standards. To ensure global accessibility and scholarly impact, the journal operates a rigorous double-blind peer-review process and upholds internationally recognized publication ethics.
